How HR and recruitment consultants can use Social Media to fill jobs and be innovative online

How to effectively use social media for recruitment

We've been having loads of fun (and success) creating social media campaigns for South Wales recruitment consultancy Talk HR. By utilising social media to the max we have produced videos, managed Facebook Advertising campaigns and run online promotions to help fill specific roles.

If you're looking to fill a job role in a specific location please get in touch.

Here's some of the things we've been doing:
  • Facebook Videos with targeted advertising
  • YouTube videos to improve SEO
  • Facebook Promotions to collect CVs for specific jobs
You can read more about each of these by scrolling down.

Facebook Videos and targeted advertising for recruitment

Here you can see videos Mogi Marketing has produced for the Recruitment Company TalkHR and then uploaded them to their Facebook Page, the style is simple but engaging. It's not too long and is normally used in conjunction with Facebook Advertising to get the maximum views (in this case the job role was filled immediately so advertising wasn't required!). You'll notice that at the end of each video there is a link to the job role specifics too.

There is evidence that Facebook will be placing more and more importance on video in terms of the content it displays in the Facebook News Feed so now is the right time to produce and upload more video content.

Producing videos for YouTube

We were also commissioned to record video of a regular networking event the recruitment company holds. This particular event featured a talk by Manjula Bray, on psychometric recruitment and also one on performance management by masters student and TalkHR employee, Laura Carpenter. The videos were uploaded to YouTUbe and tagged correctly to improve SEO for TalkHR.

The marketing objective behind producing these videos is to increase search engine traffic and promote the regular networking events. In addition it creates a high quality image of the recruitment consultants as 'thought leaders' in their field.

Facebook CV collecting App - from within the client's Facebook Page

Mogi Marketing also produced a custom Facebook CV collecting application for TalkHR. This unique campaign used the Facebook developer platform to build additional functionality into the client's Facebook page to help collect CVs for specific job roles.
We also incentivised uploadding CVs by giving away an iPad. The app allowed following:
  • Collecting CVs for 6 specific roles
  • Increasing the 'likes' of their Facebook page
  • Offering a share functionality once people had uploaded their CV to post to their personal timeline (optional)
  • CVs exported automatically to the client's Dropbox folder
  • Optional ability of the CVs to go to specific email addresses depending on which role the user selects (useful for HR Consultancies with multiple offices)

Cardiff not on Linkedin Advertising nor any other Welsh town or city!

Businesses in Wales thinking about using Linkedin Advertising may be in for a bit of a surprise...

We recently found out that despite having a population of 346,000 people you are unable to target Cardiff business people directly using Linkedin ads! When I asked Linkedin why this was they said:
Unfortunately, at this time not all the cities in UK are available as targeting locations. This is normally because the number of LinkedIn members in those cities won't let advertisers use any targeting option and get the most out of LinkedIn Ads
I find this amazing as every business person I know in Cardiff and Wales is on Linkedin so I would have thought that as a percentage of the population it would be the same as any other city in the UK. If that wasn't enough, Cambridge is on there and they have a population of 122,000. Seems a bit odd we think!
no Welsh cities or towns in Wales on Linkedin Advertising
A screenshot of Linkedin's advertising tool showing there are no Welsh cities in the list.

So what options do you have if you still want to use Linkedin Ads?

The answer is not a lot if you want to target by geographical area. The only solution is to target the entire UK and then add the city or town or some other geographical word to your adverts. However, common sense says that this could be wasteful of the advertising budget if your business is only looking for business in a specific area. Linkedin had only this suggestion:
You may want to try creating several Ad variation within one campaign targeting UK and calling for example Swansea out in the ad text

How have other Welsh businesses got on?

Are you based in Wales or want to target Welsh businesses with advertising? Have you used Linkedin Advertising and found a better way? Let us know if so by commenting below!
